John Densmore occupies L.A.

Occupy Wall Street is in it’s first month, and in the past few weeks more and more of America has become occupied, city after city is met with protestors. But few of the Occupy rallies have had a rock legend such as John Densmore support them.
Densmore who has been involved in charitable and protest movements having been arrested with Bonnie Raitt in Chicago, and lending his name to any number of charities from saving horses to appearing and playing for alternative schools. Densmore appeared at for a short time at the Occupy L.A. rally appearing very urban post-tribal in a top-knot and carrying a hand drum. He read from the New York Times, which told the occupiers they were “unsophisticated,” Densmore countered with, the hippies ended the Vietnam War, and threw a monkey wrench into the “industrial/military complex” and recited a poem by Etheridge Knight.

Occupy Venice, Come Join your movement

You are part of the 100% and the 99% is activating with this movement of direct action and direct democracy. Join us in your movement at Windward Circle across from BofA and the Post Office.
Welcome to OCCUPY VENICE, we stand in solidarity with Occupy Wall St and for all of the events springing up across the country.  As we’ve seen occupy unfold through facebook, twitter, and the various live feeds across the internet, volunteers in Venice wanted to build a site that would help spread the word as more protests organize across the world. We hope to provide people with information about events that are organizing, ongoing, and building across the U.S. as we, the 99%, take action against the greed and corruption of the 1%.
We will only grow stronger in our solidarity and we will be heard, not just in New York, but in echoes across the world.
General Assembly begins at 6:30pm.  On Thursday night after general assembly a concert in Windward Circle as part of Venice Art Crawl.

Diwali (also spelled Devali in certain regions) or Deepavali,[1] popularly known as the “festival of lights”, is an important festival in HinduismJainism, and Sikhism, celebrated for different reasons, occurring between mid-October and mid-November. For Hindus, Diwali is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes. For Jains, Diwali marks the attainment of moksha or nirvanaby Mahavira in 527 BC.[2][3] For Sikhs, Diwali is celebrated as Bandhi Chhor Diwas (The Celebration of Freedom), and celebrates the release from prison of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind, who also rescued 52 Hindu kings held captive by Mughal Emperor with him in the Gwalior Fort in 1619.[4]

Deepavali is an official holiday in India,[5] NepalSri LankaMyanmarMauritiusGuyana,Trinidad & TobagoSurinameMalaysiaSingapore,[6] and Fiji.

The name “Diwali” is a contraction of “Deepavali” (Sanskrit: ??????? D?p?val?), which translates into “row of lamps”.[7] Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (diyas or d?pas) inSanskrit: ???) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. During Diwali, all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends.

Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthendiyas and by bursting firecrackers.[8]

The festival starts with Dhanteras on which most Indian business communities begin their financial year. The second day of the festival, Naraka Chaturdasi, marks the vanquishing of the demon Naraka by Lord Krishna and his wife SatyabhamaAmavasya, the third day of Deepawali, marks the worship of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth in her most benevolent mood, fulfilling the wishes of her devotees. Amavasya also tells the story of Lord Vishnu, who in his dwarf incarnation vanquished the Bali, and banished him to Patala. It is on the fourth day of Deepawali, Kartika Shudda Padyami, that Bali went to patala and took the reins of his new kingdom in there. The fifth day is referred to as Yama Dvitiya (also called Bhai Dooj), and on this day sisters invite their brothers to their homes.

Besides Hindus, Sikhs and Jains also celebrate Diwali.[9
